“One Less” Is a Lot More

This is gonna be a weird Xmas Eve posting, but fuck it. It’s important. Merck & Co. (not my favorite big drug company) seems to be doing a very good and important thing: they’ve just released a vaccine called Gardasil, and it could be the greatest thing since sliced tissue samples. Gardasil is currently the only vaccination against cervical cancer, and that’s great news! What’s more, the company has launched a PR campaign called "One Less," aimed at girls and young women, promoting the vaccine; and you hafta agree: one less case of cervical cancer would be a great thing indeed.

Gardasil doesn’t guard against all causes of cervical cancer, but according to the company’s website, "GARDASIL is the only vaccine that may help guard against diseases that are caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) Types 6, 11, 16, and 18."

HPV is a sexually transmitted disease (STD). So, if you’re having sex—especially sex with multiple partners—please find out more about this vaccine and Merck’s "One Less" campaign, which is admirably multicultural and pretty darned snappy and hip. Salon.com has more details.Oneless_image_2

My holiday wish is that you or someone you love, becomes one less girl or young woman diagnosed with cervical cancer.

Okay. Merry everything. Have great sex. Stay healthy. I love you, and so do other folks.

  2. This is a Very Cool Thing (yes, I know I am late to the party on this one!). Merck is one of the companies that helps fund the research my lab does, so it always pleases me to hear about the good stuff!
